There is a wide variety of mole removal products available on the market. Whilst these products can be effective, they can also be quite costly. As a result of this, more and more people are turning to alternative methods of removing the dark colored skin lesions. Garlic mole removal is just one of the methods which have proven to be both popular and efficient at removing skin moles.
How Does it Work?
Skin moles appear when clusters of cells which carry the pigment in the skin (giving the skin its color) cluster together instead of spreading evenly around the body. As the cells form clusters, the area darkens and the mole can be seen.
Garlic mole removal works by using the enzymes present in the garlic to break down the clusters of cells. As this happens, the cells are once again distributed around the body as normal and the mole disappears.
As home remedies go, garlic mole removal is simple and straight forward:
- Thoroughly clean the area around the blemish with soap and water before patting dry with a clean towel.
- Protect the skin around your blemish by smearing petroleum jelly over it or covering with masking tape.
- Crush some garlic to make a paste or garlic extract can be used.
- Apply the paste or extract directly on to the mole taking extreme care not to get any on the surrounding skin.
- Cover the area with a bandage and leave for four hours.
- Remove the bandage and repeat the process throughout the day.
For those who may not want to walk around smelling of garlic all day, some people prefer to use the method overnight instead. The method is almost exactly the same, but instead of applying just the paste, a sliver of the clove is bandaged to the mole before bed time and removed in the morning.
Many people who have tried this method have reported that the mole disappears within four days. Normally, the lesion will be seen to shrink and darken before drying up and falling off.
Pros and Cons
The fact that garlic is widely available from any supermarket makes this particular method cheap, easy and convenient. In addition to this, the overall time which it takes to remove the mole is relatively quick.
It should be noted however, that applying the garlic can cause some irritation. It is vital that the healthy skin surrounding the mole is well protected as garlic may well burn it. For this reason, the method may be better suited to medium sized moles. Trying to avoid the surrounding skin for small moles may prove too difficult and could result in the patient sustaining injury.
All in all though, using garlic to remove moles is a great method for those who want to be rid of the unflattering spots on their bodies, without spending more money than necessary on expensive products.
