What are the Causes For Skin Tags in Mouth?

Skin tags affect the majority of people at some stage; more often than not these soft skin lesions come when an individual gets older. However, they are also prevalent in younger people too. Generally speaking the skin tag takes the form of a rice size flap of skin, most of the time these feature in areas where the skin is in contact with each other.

Scientists believe that there are no health risks or concerns with skin tags; however, depending on their location they can affect an individual’s well-being, including things like their confidence levels. One of the most common places for a skin tag to feature is on the eye lids and also on the neck area, which of course makes them highly visible to others.

Fortunately a skin tag in mouth is nearly always benign, in other words they are non-cancerous; however, caution should be taken if a skin tag should change color or start to bleed. In these rare cases an immediate consultation with your own health care professional is highly recommended.

Common Locations for Skin Tags to Occur

Most people who experience a skin tag will find that they develop in the following areas:

  • Beneath the breasts
  • On the neck
  • In and around the groin
  • On the eyelids
  • Around the buttock area

In addition to this one of the other areas, although not quite as common, is for a skin tag in mouth to occur. When this happens they can be a little bit harder to treat, particularly as access to this area is often more difficult, plus not to mention that it is always moist.

What are the Causes For a Skin Tag in Mouth?

It is believed that the most common reason as to why a skin tag might appear in the mouth is when people accidentally bite the inside of their cheeks. This painful experience will often leave an open wound area. The tissues themselves will start to repair of course; however, the remnants that are left over are the skin tags. Another reason as to why skin tag occurs can be when an individual grinds their teeth whilst sleeping, if this is the case then this can be avoided by wearing a night guard. This will hopefully prevent any further damage to the soft tissue areas in the mouth area, and in some cases can actually prevent the grinding of teeth at night too.

Can People Remove Them With Home Remedies?

There are some home remedies that contain pure and natural ingredients; these of course can be used when trying to treat skin tag in mouth issues:

  • Lemon juice
  • Apple cider vinegar
  • Pineapple juice
  • Onion Juice
  • Garlic
  • Ginger

These all natural ingredients can be highly effective when trying to combat skin tag in mouth problems, depending on how your taste buds react then there should be something that you will find appropriate.

It would be recommended to dilute the juice with water so that it can be used in a similar way to how a mouth was would be used. In some cases you might not want to swallow the mixture, this of course will be down to a personal preference.

What About Cutting the Skin Tag Off?

Sometimes an individual might want to resort to attempting to cut the skin tag off; in a similar way to if it was on the neck or other body part. This is not recommended as it can lead to serious complications, there can be damage done to the inside of the mouth area from cutting into other tissue areas. Combine this with the potential for a mouth bleed and potential infection of this delicate area and this quickly becomes a high risk idea. Skin tag removal by this method should only be carried out by a dentist or other trained health care provider.
